“Seeing So Much More”
About David Rabinsky
A 13 year resident of the Warehouse District in Cleveland, Ohio, David Rabinsky was born and raised in the east side of the city. After studying abroad and receiving a hospitality degree from the Tadmor School of Hospitality Management in Herzliya, Israel, he returned to Cleveland and opened David’s Gourmet, Inc., an off premise catering company in Cleveland Heights operating from 1983 through 1999. After selling his business, David immediately joined The Ritz-Carlton, Cleveland and is currently the director of social catering. His responsibilities include selling all social events, primarily wedding celebrations at the hotel and The Silver Grille in the Higbee building.
In his late 30s, David was diagnosed with the familial genetic condition, Retinitis Pigmentosa and then noticed the slow loss of peripheral and ultimately most of his central vision. At present, some 15 years with the condition, David can see light and dark and occasionally can notice some shapes. David and 4 year-old guide dog, Kody, greet perspective clients in the Motor Lobby of the hotel and escort them to appropriate venues throughout the hotel. Between appointments, David drafts custom proposals on his office computer which is adapted with voice technology, allowing him to keep up with the technology-driven modern brides.
David and Kody can be seen traversing the streets of downtown, particularly in the Warehouse District neighborhood.

[…] David Rabinsky […]
I just spent 18+ minutes listening to your incredible story. Our tradition teaches us that we can never predict the curve balls life brings us. Our job is to “see” those curve balls, to develop the skills to cope with them but to always remember that what comes to us is for the good. Our challenge is to rise to the occasion and to use what others may see as a negative to our benefit. If nothing more it sounds as if your visual limitations have allowed you to see new vistas. Kol HaKevod.
BTW, our son has a position similar to yours in the King David Hotel in Jerusalem and it is a contest who loves their job more, you or he.
